Frequently Asked Questions About Additional Coverage
Additional Coverage runs concurrently with your annual home warranty plan, which lasts a year based on your initial membership start date. So, when your home warranty plan expires, so does the Additional Coverage.
No, we do not place a limit on the number of covered repairs, although some coverage limitations and exclusions, such as dollar amount caps, may apply. Please review the specific list of coverage limitations and exclusions for each Additional Coverage item via the sample contract.
You can add Additional Coverage when you purchase your home warranty plan, within the first 60 days of your plan being active via MyAccount or by calling 1-888-682-1043, or during the open member renewal period.
Although our ShieldSilver™, ShieldGold™, and ShieldPlatinum™ home warranty plans include coverage for up to 23 systems and appliances you use every day, you may still want Additional Coverage to help cover specific items like pools and spas, electronics, guest units, and more. American Home Shield® Additional Coverage takes the stress out of covered breakdowns and helps protect your budget. Here are the additional items we cover, no matter their age: Roof Leak Repair (included with the ShieldPlatinum™ plan but can be added to the ShieldSilver™ and ShieldGold™ plans), Electronics Protection, Pools & Inground Spas, Guest Units (under 750 square feet), Septic Pumps, and Well Pumps.
Our standard contract term is 1 year and can be renewed upon expiration. When you purchase a new home warranty plan, there is a 30-day waiting period before you can make your first service request.

I rented a motel room for the night and as I was getting ready to leave, the contractor called and said he could be there that night if I still wanted him to!!! I was soooo happy. Great service for homeowners! If you have a ton of cash ready for any home system that may fail at any moment then you are good. If you are like the other 90% of homeowners who don't, then do yourself a favor and protect your investment with an AHS home warranty. Seriously, a new HVAC in California costs over $4K. I paid $100. A new stove last year was $400, but I paid $75. It's in my budget and I don't think twice. AHS always takes great care of me.

I used AHS for the first time and what an easy process. I booked a service appointment online, paid the $100 service fee, and the repairman fixed the problem in less than 10 minutes. Our "trusted" AC tune up guys told us our unit was leaking refrigerant and needed a new coil unit.
